01 - 2 (15 oz) cans black beans, drained and rinsed
02 - 1/2 red onion, finely diced
03 - 2 cloves garlic, minced
04 - 1/2 cup rolled oats
05 - 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (gluten-free if needed)
06 - 1 large egg
07 - 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
08 - 2 teaspoons ground cumin
09 - 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
10 - 1/2 teaspoon chili powder

# Directions:

01 - Mash the black beans in a large bowl using a fork or potato masher, leaving some texture intact.
02 - Add red onion, garlic, rolled oats, breadcrumbs, egg, lime juice, cumin, smoked paprika, chili powder, salt, pepper, and cilantro. Mix thoroughly until well combined.
03 - Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape each into a burger patty.
04 - Heat a nonstick skillet or grill pan over medium heat and lightly oil the surface. Cook patties for 4 to 5 minutes per side until golden brown and heated through.
05 - Lightly toast the burger buns if desired.
06 - Spread a dollop of zesty yogurt sauce or chipotle mayo on the bottom halves of the buns. Layer with shredded lettuce, black bean patties, tomato slices, red onion, and avocado. Cover with the top halves of the buns.
07 - Serve immediately garnished with lime wedges and a side salad if preferred.
